Strengthening local communities through engagement and opportunity

As an enabler of the green transition at sea, HAV Group recognises that sustainable development extends beyond technology and environmental impact. Equally important is the company’s contribution to thriving local communities, as part of its broader commitment to social responsibility and long-term value creation.

Supporting local initiatives is therefore an integral part of HAV Group’s sustainability strategy, particularly within the “social” dimension, which emphasises inclusion, development and strong community engagement.

In Herøy, on Norway’s north-west coast, Herøy Billiards Club (Herøy Biljardklubb) illustrates how targeted partnerships can create meaningful and lasting impact.

An inclusive arena for belonging and development

Herøy Biljardklubb-VestlandsnyttLocated in Fosnavåg, where HAV Group is headquartered, Herøy Billiards Club serves as an important meeting place for children, young people and adults. The club provides more than a recreational activity – it offers a safe, inclusive environment where individuals can develop skills, build confidence and experience a sense of belonging.

Over time, the club has established a strong culture centred around inclusion, personal achievement and community. Participants are encouraged to progress at their own pace, supported by a positive and socially engaging environment.

For HAV Group, supporting such initiatives is a natural extension of its ambition to contribute to safe, inclusive and attractive local communities.

“For us, sponsorship is about more than visibility. We want to support arenas that foster belonging and personal development for young people. This is essential for building resilient communities and ensuring future attractiveness,” says Gunnar Larsen, CEO of HAV Group.

Herøy Billiards Club also plays a key role in developing local talent. Players such as Jonas Kvalsund Hansen (22) and Robin Hauge Pettersen (17) began their journeys at the club and have progressed to elite level, achieving strong results in national competitions.

Robin currently leads Norway’s elite series and has represented the country internationally, including at the Junior World Championships in Australia, where he also was Norway’s flag bearer.

“I am proud to represent Herøy Billiards Club. Despite being a small club, we perform at a high level nationally and contribute players to both junior and senior national teams,” says Robin.

The club continues to nurture younger players, ensuring continuity and long-term impact through steady recruitment and development of new talent.

Recognised impact through voluntary commitment

In addition, Britt-Sølvi Hauge Pettersen has been nominated for Leader of the Year, highlighting the importance of dedicated volunteer work in creating positive opportunities for young people.

Such recognition reflects the broader societal value created when local engagement is supported by committed partners.

Accessible opportunities for all

A key strength of Herøy Billiards Club is its accessibility. The club actively lowers barriers to participation and welcomes individuals of all skill levels and backgrounds.

By offering an inclusive alternative to more traditional sports, the club enables more young people to experience achievement and social connection.

“We want everyone to feel welcome. Billiards is an activity where many can succeed, which is particularly important for young people who may not find their place elsewhere.  HAV Group’s support allows us to further develop our offering for children and young people and create even more positive experiences,” says Britt-Sølvi Hauge Pettersen.

Local engagement as part of a broader ESG commitment

HAV Group’s support for Herøy Billiards Club is part of a wider regional engagement across Herøy, Ålesund, Bergen and Egersund. These initiatives reflect the company’s ambition to support local communities and contribute to inclusive growth, in line with its ESG priorities.

By combining industrial expertise with community engagement, HAV Group aims to create value that extends beyond its core business, supporting both the green transition at sea and sustainable development on land.

When industry and local organisations collaborate, the result is more than activity. It creates belonging, strengthens communities and builds confidence in the future.

And in local environments like Herøy, it is often through small, everyday moments, around a billiards table, that the foundation for future achievement is formed.
